Privacy policy

Daily Football (dailyfootball.org and the Daily Football apps for Android and iPhone) is a free information service about football matches. We do not ask for your name, email address or an account, and we do not sell or share data for advertising. This page explains the little data we use and why.

Voting

When you vote, the website or the app sends a random code created on your device. We store only an irreversible hash (SHA-256) of this code together with your vote, so that each device can vote once per match and see its own vote. The code stays on your device (browser storage or app settings) and is not linked to your identity.

App usage count

Once a day the app tells our server that it is in use: the hash of the same random code, the date, the platform (Android or iPhone) and the app version. We use this only to count how many phones use the app.

Website statistics

When you open a page, our server records the date, the page (and the match), the language, whether it was opened on a phone and the name of the website you came from, if any. To count visitors without cookies we store a short hash made from your IP address, browser and the date with a secret key; it changes every day and cannot be turned back into your IP address.

Downloads of the app from our website are counted in the same way: the date, the type of device and the link you came from.

Cookies

Our website sets only one cookie of its own, “timezone”, which remembers the time zone you chose. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (see below).

Google Analytics

The website uses Google Analytics to understand how it is used (pages, country, type of device). Google Analytics uses cookies and processes your IP address. More information: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can block it in your browser settings or with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The apps do not use Google Analytics.

Other services

The website uses Cloudflare to deliver pages quickly and securely and Google Fonts for the font; these services receive your IP address when your browser loads the site. Team logos and flags are loaded from our own server.

What we do not do

We do not create accounts and do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts or location. We do not show ads and do not sell or share personal data.

How long we keep data

Website and app statistics are deleted after 13 months. Votes are kept together with the match they belong to.

Your rights

Because we cannot link this data to a person, we usually cannot find or delete it on request.

If you live in the European Union, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
